The craziness…

of changing over code for the new ebay partners program has begun. Already quite a few kinks to work out in the BANS upgrade. Mostly hasty code work, it looks like to me. Some of this was coding that was outsourced by the BANS guys, and I’ll bet a dollar that’s where the problems are. Anyway, my current goal for BANS for the month of April is $200 or so, which means I forfeit all of $5 in bonus commissions to not change over for a couple weeks. So I’m hanging tight, waiting for all the bugs to get worked out, then jumping in.

Great SBI site

Sometimes you just see a great site. I love this site here.

I understand the creator is finding tons of success with C2 comment pages from users. Some are ranking at PR3! Great site.

More BANS

I’m enjoying the BANS empire series.

I’m up to a dozen BANS sites now, and made $100 last month. Baby steps, as they say. Not bad considering I just started at the beginning of the year. After I have several BANS sites that are 6 - 8 months old, I’ll be able to get a better handle on the kind of monetization to expect. Still aiming for $50/day per site.

Bad weekend

over the weekend, both of my favorite services were fighting bugs (must be the spring air ;-). SBI was having a brainstormer hiccup that put that at a standstill and BANS was having cloaking link issues with its new V.3 software upgrade. Things got worse for BANS when their site was hacked. Looks like they are now migrating over to a dedicated server (which they should’ve done in the first place!) Its interesting to see that whether you are small, like the growing BANS team, or large, like the impressive operation that is SBI, you can always find yourself having a bad weekend. Such is life.

Content, Content, Content

Nice comments going on at the SBI forums re: using BANS with SBI. The bottom line: Content drives traffic. Also, hoping to hear more about using Infin It! to directly link from an SBI site to BANS sites. Once I get my second SBI site going, I’ll give it a whirl. I think it’s a naturally match. SBI draws traffic, BANS monitizes.

Busy with BANS

I know I haven’t posted lately, but that’s because I’m busy following along with the excellent “Build a Niche Store Empire” series hosted by Mark Hansen over at TheNicheStoreBuilder.

If you are a BANS or SBI owner, go check it out!

I’ve already built one quick site (two weeks, but it could’ve easily been one), optimized it, got some inbound links and submitted it to the search engines. I’m working on my second.

Using mTurk

I was just emailing someone the other day about how to create new content without having to create it yourself. If you use SBI, you’ve probably already used mTurk to seed your C2 entries, or just used it to seed your own mind for some T2 or T3 pages.

But for BANS folks, especially those who use the script like me to create quick and dirty sites, it is a great way to generate some fresh content that the search engines love for just 50 cents a pop!

Find the details after the jump. Find Mechanical Turk here.

Side by Side

This is the kind of thing that could turn into a page, but I have enough work ahead of me finishing my two pages on how I set up SBI and BANS! This is a pretty specific to my experiences and how I use them, so you may come away with a different view.

  • SBI is all about passion. It’s about creating one site that you can be proud of that is focused on a subject that you have a passion for, whether it’s astronomy, prenatal care or raccoons. Whatever! Then, you look for ways to make money with your passion.
  • BANS is all about niches. Finding the smallest ones, with the least competition, that can still yield some monetization potential. You don’t have to care one iota what the subject is. If you do sites the way I do with BANS, you’re only going to working on the site for a couple weeks, before you are on to the next.

Here are a few other differences:

BANS

  • Monetize up front
  • One primary monetization model
  • Focus is on quantity over quality
  • Main goal: Build more sites

SBI!

  • Monetizing comes later
  • Many monetization possibilities
  • Focus on quality over quantity
  • Main goal: Build more pages

I doubt I could do BANS without SBI

Ok, ok. I’m sure I could, lots of people do, but if you want to quickly create keyword-targeted pages, you can’t do better than the keyword searches that SBI brings back. I use its built-in brainstormer for any keyword i’m considering for a BANS site. And I find that even though they are based on Word Tracker, the results are so much easier to understand and work with. Not to mention the added dimensions of Value Demand, Real Supply and Profitability, functions you just can’t get anywhere else.

Am I saying it would be worth the price of SBI just to get the Brainstormer? Of course not! And that would be a complete waste. But what I do think is that if you are interested in creating an SBI site, then you will find a great added value in the brainstormer in conjunction with BANS.

Others may do things differently. This is the way I’ve found works best for me.

About the Author

I have been using SiteBuildIt! off and on for more than a year, but only got serious in the last few months. I discovered Build A Niche Store while in the process of "ramping up" my first SBI! site. I now spend an equal amount of time building new BANS sites and creating content pages for my SBI! site. Email: jjbohling@sbibans.com
